First Parent/Teacher Confrence 2-27-14

We had our very first parent teacher conference at Jillian's preschool.  The teachers had nothing but good thinks to say about her.  We of course asked if she behaved well to which they said she does.  That is always nice to hear! :)

They showed us paper chart of all the things she should know before kindergarten.  Just had to do with recognizing all upper and lower case letters, the sounds letters make, and then numbers.  She had a good start with recognizing must of the upper case letters.. she doesn't know the lower case ones so well and has to work on the sound recognition and numbers.  Also the front page was of her writing her name, which still needs some work.

The teachers didn't have any concerns with where she was at with her learning.  They told us that she is fun to have in class.  Lately they have been pretending to go on vacations together during free play.  The teachers also said that if one of them sits down she comes over to see what they are doing, and asks  if she can do this or that.

We talked about how when were first brought her in how I was sure they would have to call me to come get her because she was too upset.  The teachers said they had actually forgotten about that and said that she has always been fine.  She usually starts out pretty quiet and then warms up.  Also she will join in but isn't usually the one to initiate things.

This past Tuesday it was her turn to be the leader  They said she just loved that!  She got up front in the line and put her arms out to make sure all the other kids stayed behind her and followed her.

We did tell them that we had her signed up for class next year for M-W-F.  Which as it turns out will be with the same teachers in the same room.  That will be nice for her to go back to the same class and routine for the next school year.

Jillian's 4th Birthday

Jillians' Birthday fell during the week.  So I took the day off and took her with some friends to the Children's Mueseum.

We met our friends for lunch and then headed up to the Museum.  We had to of course ride the Carousel.  One of her favorite things.

We have found it works out pretty well letting the kids all ride in one wagon and pulling them around.  They are small enough still that we can get them all 3 in.  Makes it easier to move between exhibits.

At preschool they celebrated Jillian's special day.  She took in special cookies and rings as treats for her friends. She got a special Birthday crown from Preschool that she happily wore.

Jillian did get to have a Birthday party the Saturday following her Birthday.  She had lots of fun playing with her friends.  Her theme this year was Doc McsStuffins.  As she is a favorite here at the moment.

Party favors - Mini book of boo boo's and little doc bags.  Filled with some stickers, a mini slinky, and a bit of candy.

She had a special Doc birthday cake that even had the "Susie Sunshine" doll image included.

She opened present quickly this year.  She definitely knew what this was all about this year.

Jillian even had told me that we could sing Happy Birthday too her and she wasn't going to say "ow!"
Eating yummy cake and ice cream

The kiddos all had fun dressing up in the different princess costumes that Jillian has.  Even Adam was dressed up as Tinkerbell for a while.  He had to be like the girls of course :).

Dentist - First Teeth Cleaning

Jillian went to the Dentist's office with me 6 months ago and let the hygienist look at her teeth but that was it.  She got a new toothbrush for going that was Jake and the Neverland Pirates themed.

Today we both had an appointment to get out teeth cleaned again.  First it was she didn't want to go then we talked about it and she decided she would go and even declared I want to go first.  Once we got to the office she changed her mind again and didn't want to do it let alone go first!

The hygienist turned on Disney Junior for Jillian to watch while she cleaned my teeth.  Jillian was keeping an eye on what this lady was using in mouth.  She didn't want her to use any of the poky things in her mouth!! You  could see her watching as she used each item to clean off my teeth and could tell she didn't like the looks of that!!

As it got closer to her turn she was declaring that she still didn't want to have her teeth cleaned.  We got her to sit on the chair.  She elected to sit on my lap.  Then the hygienist got out a pair of pink gloves for Jillian to put on just like she was going to do. Then she let her hold the little mirror.  She asked for a turn and Jillian let her have it back and let her look at her teeth.  She slowly was convinced to let her teeth be counted.

After that the hygienist pulled out the polishing brush.  She let Jillian feel that it was soft and let her smell the "tooth paste" she was going to use.  Jillian then allowed her to polish her teeth.  As long as the poky things were left out of it she didn't pretty good.  I love that our hygienist was so patient with her and showed her, explained, and let her touch all of the things before she used them.

Now when it came to the Dentist coming in to check her teeth.  No way did she want him to look in her mouth.  Sorry Dr. Watts!  Give her a few more years probably before she decides you are OK.  Since she did such a good job she got to pick out a new toothbrush and a special prize from the prize box!  Also mommy had told her that if she let them clean her teeth we could go get breakfast.  So after we left I went through a drive through and took home breakfast for her, her daddy, and myself.

Christmas 2013

CHRISTMAS EVE
Christmas celebrations started with the Christmas Eve service at Church followed by the gathering at my Grandma's house.  Jillian just had to sing the first verse of Away in a Manger.  She could sing it as long as someone was prompted her on the part that came next.  Otherwise she would end up repeating parts which was still cute.  I think she was singing when all the little kids (3 year olds - Kindergarten).  She ended up behind another child who was taller than her.  It is a little hectic getting the small ones lined up.  She did her best to peek her head out, but she was hard to see.

We then went to Grandmas for her Christmas gathering.  The kids got to open up a couple of gifts each.  One from great grandma and the other from the cousins gift exchange.  Following presents was picture time.  And just as last year Jillian ended up hiding her face and crying during the experience.  She won't always allow me to take her picture let alone the entire family paparazzi!  After the pictures she enjoyed playing with her cousins.

CHRISTMAS DAY
Christmas morning we slept in a bit and I had to remind her it was Christmas morning.  We had to wake up daddy and then I had them wait while I got the video camera turned on.  I wanted her reaction to seeing the presents on film too.  She was very into opening everything before she turned her attention to playing with any of the items.

Santa brought her a Doc McStuffins checkup center, a guitar, and a barbie.   Mommy and Daddy got her a box of dress up clothes, chutes and ladders, Mrs. potato head, pink sparkly boots, Doc Mcstuffins stuffed animals "Doc, Hallie, Lamby, Stuffy, and Chilly", and two DVD's (Planes & Monsters University). In her stocking which we nearly forgot about was a candy necklace set, a Hello Kitty foam fan with candy, and Santa Pez dispenser.  I think she had a good Christmas!

Later that day we headed over to celebrate with Grandpa, Grandma Karen, and uncle John.  This year John hosted Christmas at his house.  After enjoying lunch together we opened gifts.  Jillian got a cuddly stuffed bear from uncle John and a barbie with a horse from grandma and grandpa.  And what did she play with the most.  The box the bear came in of course!  Aunt Susie and Uncle Gary weren't able to make it over since Sue was in the hospital with pneumonia.

DELAYED CHRISTMAS

Christmas with Meemaw, Papa, Uncle Brian, Aunt Anna, Benjamin & Makayla was delayed due to a stomach bug.  We did get together just not until New Years Day.  The kids were all very excited to open presents so we let them do that before having them sit down to eat for lunch. Jillian got a talking woody doll from Uncle Brian and Aunt Anna.  She got a new leap pad for Christmas or as she calls it her "E-pad".  She carried her new Woody doll all around with her.  Then she helped cousin Makayla play with her new princess castle.
